January 2025
I thought, I try my hand on a monthly recap post. I enjoy reading other’s posts (eg. Jasper's) so, why not?
Photography

-
Technically I ordered these ☝️ prints on the last day of the last year, but they arrived at the beginning of this month: Small format prints of my “Aile” project, which I will use to do some editing and sequencing. My goal right now is to get those 853 images down to about maybe 50. I’ll try out different sequences to see what works best. I want to keep adding to the log on the project page, whenever I am working on the project.
-
The 366 Project is officially done! I sent out the last zine (Part 4) to the lovely people who ordered it. I still need to update the project page. All four zines are now available to buy directly from Blurb. (They are not signed obviously.)
-
I set some new rules for my photo blog. Since I finished the 366 project, I have been slacking, and missing days here and there. While I intentionally broke the streak on January 1st, I feel something is missing in my day, so I’ll do daily posts again.
-
Speaking of 365 projects: I am compiling a list of people doing 365 projects, where they post a photograph everyday. I already got some lovely recommendations on Mastodon. Please share, if you yourself are doing a project or know of a person doing it.
Media Consumption
-
Skeleton Crew: Would have loved this as a kid. Feels like a perfect “first star wars experience”. Really enjoyed the first season. Also had a happy end, so if there’s no season two, at least there’s no real cliff hanger to be stuck on.
-
The Good Whale (Serial Podcast) follows the story of Keiko (Free Willy). I remember it being on the news back in the day, but I think I never actually saw the movie. Anyways, I was sick in bed at the beginning of the month and my eyes hurt looking at a screen, so I listened to this instead watching something. Interesting, and kind of a sad ending.
-
Silo on Apple TV+: Really enjoyed this season. Picked up the pace at the end there, and the ending was a surprise. (So we’re getting flashbacks now, ok.) The only thing that really bothers me is that is very (very!) dark sometimes, which makes it hard to see what is actually happening.
-
WWE Raw on Netflix: Not in Germany though, which is a bummer. (I guess that’s what VPNs are for?) So I watched the inaugural episode on Netflix. Lots of “star power”, but other than that pretty… boring? Very cookie cutter/crowd pleasing, no controversies whatsoever, but probably expected being the first impression for many new viewers, so it probably made sense to them to have all the faces go over? 🤷♂️
-
American Primeval on Netflix: Gritty. I usually enjoy a good Western setting. Did here as well.
-
Killer’s Game on Prime Video: Meh. Batista has so many better roles. This was pretty basic.
-
Prime Target on Apple TV+: It’s called “Prime Finder” in Germany, not sure what that’s about? Kinda interesting premise. I need to watch one or two more epsiodes.
Reading
- We are Legion (We are Bob) by Dennis E. Taylor: Got this as a suggestion on Audible. Sounded fun and it is. When I started, I didn’t know that it is a whole series of books. (Probably wouldn’t have started!) Very abrupt ending.
Still not decided if I want to keep going.Had a credit left on Audible so I got part 2 as well.
Gaming
-
Played Zelda a Link to the Past on my Miyoo Mini + – Probably my fourth time playing this. Still one of the greatest Zelda games of all time.
-
Rush Hour: Got this used and as a gift recently. The goal is to get the red car to the opening on the right. Lumi an I love playing these logic games.
Work Stuff
- picu: Released a beta version of our e-commerce integration and shared a bit of the current development on our dev log.
Gear
- Topo Designs Mountain Cross Bag: I’d wanted to try a shoulder bag instead of a backpack again. I hate the sturdiness of all of the “proper” camera bags (same reason I also dislike camera backpacks). This one looks cool and is very flexible and lightweight and has the right amount of organization. It even fits my laptop, so I’ve been using it as my commuter bag for the last couple of weeks. I like it very much so far!
Family & Miscellaneous
-
We played in the snow. Even though it was gone pretty fast/turned into slush, the kids were very excited!
-
Accompanied Suvi to an indoor playground for a birthday party. My god, the noise level. The whole place was huge and had room for about 20 birthday parties. Insanity.
-
Went back to the stables with Suvi. While she liked being around the ponies the car ride there and back really made her question everything. She really does not like being in a car.
-
We went ice skating. Too crowded for my taste, especially for Suvi, who was on skates for the second time.
-
Went back to the aforementioned indoor playground with both daughters this time. They enjoyed it very much. It was loud again. (Mental note: Bring the noice cancelling earbuds next time!)
-
Accompanied Ulya to her signing her contract. It is now official: She will be going back to university in March to start her midwifery studies!
Mirror selfie after signing the contract ✌️
Well, that wasn’t so hard. Will try again next month. 🙂
